The stops
1. Munich· 1 night
Start with a lap of Marienplatz and a beer garden evening in the Englischer Garten before pointing the car at the mountains.
2. Innsbruck· 1 night
The Nordkette cable car climbs from the old town to 2,256 m in twenty minutes — do it before dinner under the Golden Roof.
3. Bolzano· 1 night
South Tyrol's capital mixes strudel and aperitivo; Ötzi the Iceman in the archaeology museum is worth the queue.
4. Cortina d'Ampezzo· 2 nights
Base for the Dolomites' greatest hits — Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Lago di Braies and the Passo Giau switchbacks.
5. Venice· 2 nights
Finish on the water: cicchetti crawls in Cannaregio beat anything on Piazza San Marco, and dawn on the Rialto is a different city.
Good to know
June–September keeps the high Dolomite passes open and green; late September adds larch colour. Austria and Italy both require a motorway vignette/toll. Park in Mestre or Tronchetto and take the vaporetto in — Venice itself is car-free.
